Agrupación Father and Son Group Volunteers at Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen

This past Saturday, the Agrupación’s Father and Son group met at the Agrupación house . We welcomed new father and son volunteers who came to help us work at the Missionaries of Charity (MC’s).

Two ACU Visitantes José Mora and Nicola Stasi had been working directly with the MC’s to determine what the property needed and assessing the scope of work. They also spent time on the property doing some preparatory work.

The day started with breakfast cooked outside by Agrupado Jose Toledo. After breakfast, we had an introduction of the Agrupacion and then a brief instruction on the three pillars of the Agrupación. The group later went to the Missionaries of Charity soup kitchen in Downtown Miami to volunteer.

The Agrupación has worked with the Missonaries Of Charity for many years since our former Director F. Amando Llórente SJ was the chaplain when M. Teresa of Calcutta first opened the house in 1982. The MC’s have been serving the homeless population of Miami for over 40 years. The house serves as a shelter for homeless woman and children at night and during the day it serves as a soup kitchen feeding homeless people.

The group spent the day painting the interior of the house, painting and repairing statues, trimming trees, clearing out the garden, pressure cleaning, and doing general maintenance. The property had a lot of deferred maintenance. It was a day of hard work, but also a day of fellowship and bonding between fathers and sons.
